All I can think right now is… blah. I am one of those types of people who has to sample whatever I’m baking at every single step… and then some. I’ve come to learn that this is only beneficial when done in moderation, and usually with a food that doesn’t take a year off of your life with every single serving. When I tallied up some of the ingredients in this particular confection, I found that it contained 3 sticks of butter, 6 1/2 cups of sugar, and several hours, possibly days, of regret. Now don’t get me wrong, I have quite the sweet tooth, but by the time I finished I could only bring myself to take one bite. Even if I hadn’t prematurely indulged, I probably couldn’t eat much because it is so rich. Good, but rich. You can see the recipes I used at the following links: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,176,151185-235199,00.html (cake) http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Buttercream-Icing (frosting) Basically its two giant cookies on top of each other, separated with a layer of frosting, and then frosted on top for decoration.
Now before I continue, I should explain this list item. At my school, for whatever reason, cookie cakes are all the rage; the predominant consumer of said desserts is hands-down the Spanish II+ classes. Every single fiesta (which is about once a quarter), everybody pitches in a little extra to pack in a sugar rush during school hours. Part of this goal was a tribute to the good old days of just chilling in Spanish class, and of course, the awesome teacher who put up with it all (shout out to you, Profe!). I’d say another part of this goal was a hunch that at some point during the summer I would be suffering from withdrawals. And the best part? Getting my cake and eating it too, without having to pay $15 for it.
Originally, I had planned on finishing up a different list item today, but as Woody Allen once said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” (That post should be up next Wednesday or Thursday). I’m still glad I was able to get another item crossed off the list, and as much as I wish I could enjoy the results, I think I’m going to go puke now.
Love & Summer,
Update: My older brother (the foodie) just gave me his review… “This is amazing! If you hadn’t told me, I would have thought this was one from Sam’s Club.” Mission accomplished.
